Still You

A marriage song about choosing the same person through change, conflict, exhaustion, healing, and every version of the life you built together

Where This Song Came From

Still You is about my wife and the years between being young together and becoming the people we are now. We started with late-night talks and a future we could not see. We did not understand yet how much love would eventually ask of us.

Long relationships collect beautiful memories, but they also collect hard days, tired conversations, silence after arguments, and moments when walking away might feel easier than staying close.

I did not want to write a perfect-love song because our love matters more than perfection. We have grown into different people, made mistakes, hurt each other, repaired things, raised a family, and kept choosing the life we made.

The song is my way of saying that after every version of us, it is still her. Not because nothing changed, but because we learned how to change without letting go of everything we built.

What I Was Feeling

I was thinking about how love at the beginning is mostly feeling, while love after years becomes action. It is what you protect when stress, work, parenting, and life make closeness harder.

I also wanted to acknowledge what she has carried. I have seen her tired and strong. I know I have not always been easy to love. Gratitude in a marriage has to include the truth.

Breaking Down the Lyrics

Not the same but stronger now refuses the idea that successful love stays unchanged. Strength came from adapting.

It was never perfect love, but it was real enough to stay is probably the clearest description of what I wanted the song to say.

I don't love you because it was easy, I love you because it wasn't is not celebrating pain. It honors the choice to protect something valuable when life tested it.

A Note From Chris

This is for my wife. It is also for anyone who knows real love is not one beautiful beginning. It is thousands of ordinary choices made after the beginning.

The Line I Hope Stays With You

Lasting love is not never breaking — it is choosing to heal without walking away.

Back when forever felt like a guess We were just kids holding something we didn't understand yet We started with nothing but late night talks And a future we couldn't see Just two hearts learning how to hold Something bigger than we'd ever be We didn't know about heavy days Or the silence after fights Didn't know love could feel like war Then still feel like home at night We were building through the cracks While the world kept moving fast And nobody saw the weight we carried Just how long we made it last There were nights we almost broke Words we wish we never spoke But somehow we stayed close When letting go felt easier And right when it felt like we might lose it all Still you after everything we've been through Not the same but stronger now in ways we never knew And I'm still right here when the world got too much We didn't run We didn't fold We just learned how to hold on It was never perfect love But it was real enough to stay And I'm still standing here beside you Choosing you every day Still you and still me In everything we made All these years later We're the reason that we stayed I've seen you tired I've seen you strong Seen you carry more than me Seen you smile through things That would've buried most people quietly And I know I wasn't easy I know I gave you days that hurt But you stayed when it got heavy That's the part that hits the worst We grew into different people But somehow still aligned That's the kind of love you don't find That's the kind you fight to keep alive Every scar Every change Every loss Every strain We didn't lose what we made We just learned to see it clearer And even when it felt like it was breaking us apart Still you after everything we've been through Not the same but stronger now in ways we never knew And I'm still right here when the world got too much We didn't run We didn't fold We just learned how to hold on It was never perfect love But it was choosing every day And I'm still standing here beside you Finding better ways Still you and still me In everything we made Even when it hurt the most We never walked away I don't love you because it was easy I love you because it wasn't Because we stood in the middle of everything breaking And decided we weren't done That's the truth nobody talks about Love isn't what you feel at the start It's what you protect when it gets hard And you never stopped choosing me Still you after all the years It's always been you Through the noise Through the pain Through every version we grew And I'm still right here Even when it got too much We bent We broke We healed again But never gave it up It was never just a spark It was fire that remained Every loss Every scar Every moment that we gained Still you and still me In the life that we made Through every high and every low We never walked away Not just a memory This is everything we built And we're still not finished yet Still you and still me Right here in what we made Still forever in the life we didn't let fade
